From Chair to Front Desk: How One Registered Dental Assistant Boosted His Confidence and Skills

An interview with Ayodeji Adegbulu, Fairly Staffing Scholarship Recipient

We recently caught up with Ayodeji Adegbulu, a Registered Dental Assistant and recipient of the Fairly Staffing Scholarship, to hear about his experience taking a dental administration course through our partners at Dental Choice Academy. Here’s what he had to say.

What inspired you to take this course, and how did the Fairly Scholarship help make it possible?
My motivation to take the course was to gain more understanding of the process and workflow from front to operatory in a dental office as part of my work as a Dental Assistant. I have some experience with dental software but wanted to really dive in and get more comfortable with the process. This course gave me that opportunity, and the Fairly Staffing Scholarship allowed me to take the course with no financial stress attached. I’m thankful for that opportunity!

What is the biggest skill, insight, or confidence boost you gained from the course?
The course really opened my eyes and boosted my confidence in how a dental operation works digitally. It was a lot of work to complete, but I gained so much knowledge about Curve Hero and Dentrix in particular. I learned a lot about how the front desk team needs to communicate with the clinical team and how patient information is passed between teams. This has increased my confidence in the proper and efficient use of dental software.

How do you feel this course will impact your career and the care you provide going forward?
This course has already made a positive difference. I feel much more confident in my scheduling of patients. I feel more confident in taking care of cancellations and reschedules, and more confident that I can provide information to the team that will help promote the front-to-back-office workflow. These skills will impact the care provided to patients and the efficiency of the practice as a whole.
